Caring for your bench.

Both oak and iroko are durable timbers and many people like to leave the bench untreated to weather to a silver grey colour, you may expect many years of active service from an untreated bench although we do recommend cleaning the bench from time to time to remove dirt and mildew that can build up over time.

A product such as Cuprinol clear wood preserver will protect against mildew and fungal or insect attack. The timber will still weather slowly to a silver grey colour but this kind of treatment, particularly if re-coated once a year will ultimately prolong the life of the bench.

In order to enhance the beauty of the timber grain and maintain the “as new” appearance of your bench, a product such as Deks Olje is highly regarded and should provide maximum protection against the elements, once again it’s important to maintain the finish with a re-coat at least once a year.

Although we cannot guarantee the effectiveness of any particular product, the suggestions listed above should, if properly maintained, keep your bench in tip top condition.

We will be happy to apply the finish of your choice to your bench before dispatch, please see our price list for costs.
